Lili Denim: your new sustainable wardrobe

Now this one, I know you'll all love! Got an old pair of jeans you don't love anymore? Denim jacket that looks too 90s and not enough spicy? Bored of the same ol' style clothes in shops? Then, Lili Denim has answered all your prayers. The best way to have your own custom-made, one-of-its-kind, environmentally-friendly wardrobe!

For those who don't know you - introduce yourself to the people:

Hi ! My name is Louise Marmié, I just turned 21 and I live between Bordeaux (France) and Cardiff (UK)! I run a small hand painted denim business, and all my pieces are absolutely unique and custom made. I create these face-like designs on jeans, jackets, skirts, shorts, because I think it makes them look so special and different!

What made you start what your business? Any particular people/brands/artists who influenced you?

The inspiration for my designs actually came from the outfit Timothée Chalamet’s character

Elio wears in the final scene of the film 'Call Me by Your Name' by Luca Guadagnino. It’s a beautiful shirt with these squiggly faces design on it, and I thought something in those lines would look absolutely amazing on jeans. So I came up with my own design on a pair of jeans I had, and I got so many compliments that I decided to see if other people would like to buy them ! That’s how I started my own little business.

What's unique about your business?

What makes my creations special is that they are absolutely unique, meaning no one will have the exact same piece you have, as opposed to fast fashion brands that sell hundreds of the same item of clothing to hundreds of different people. I also only use second-hand and vintage denim, so I try to be as sustainable as possible !

What's your favourite thing about what you do? Do you have a favourite piece?

I love how soothing and calming the actual painting process is. I will sit on the floor for several hours, listening to music, and brush in hand, I just let my creative flow run wild on a piece of denim. I’ve recently created a denim jacket for a customer, and I love how it turned out.

Any exciting projects coming up that we should know about?

I am currently working on a big giveaway with six other crazy talented small businesses, I am so excited to engage more with my followers by thanking them with some free goodies!

Where do you see yourself/brand in a few years?

I would love to be able to keep working on my designs and grow as a business, even though I am still at uni. I am thinking of creating new pieces with my designs on them, like dresses, jumpers and even Converse trainers, I think it would look great !

Most importantly, where can people find you?!

People can find me on Instagram @lili.denim, as well as on Etsy, Lilidenim!
